Insurance and Fees
Understanding Your Insurance Options
All of the therapists at Holding Hope MFT are out-of-network providers. Given how challenging it can be to navigate insurance coverage for therapy services in New York, we aim to provide you with clear, helpful information to make the process as smooth as possible. This page will guide you through understanding your insurance benefits, our fees, and the steps involved in seeking reimbursement for the therapy services you receive at our practice.
Out-of-Network Benefits
As out-of-network providers, we are not directly contracted with any insurance companies. However, many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits for mental health services. If your plan includes these benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement of a portion of the fees you pay for therapy at Holding Hope MFT.
It’s important to check with your insurance provider to confirm your specific out-of-network coverage. When contacting your insurance company, be sure to ask the following questions:
- Does my plan cover out-of-network mental health services, specifically for outpatient psychotherapy and telehealth visits?
- What is my out-of-network deductible for mental health services, and how much of it remains to be met?
- What percentage of the allowed amount does my plan reimburse for out-of-network psychotherapy (CPT code 90834 for individual therapy and 90847 for joint/family therapy)?
- Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per year?
The Reimbursement Process
To seek reimbursement for therapy sessions at Holding Hope MFT, follow these steps:
- After each session, we will provide you with a detailed bill, known as a superbill. This document contains all the necessary information your insurance company requires for processing claims, such as date of service, CPT codes, and diagnoses.
- Submit the superbill to your insurance provider. The submission process varies by insurer, so contact them for specific instructions on how to submit your claim. You may need to mail, fax, or upload the superbill electronically.
- Your insurance company will review the claim and determine the reimbursement amount based on your out-of-network benefits. They will then issue reimbursement directly to you.
- Keep track of your reimbursements and any communications with your insurance provider. If you have questions or concerns about the status of your claim, contact your insurance company directly.
We understand that the reimbursement process can be complex. We’re here to support you and provide any necessary documentation to assist in the process. However, please note that you are ultimately responsible for communicating with your insurance provider and tracking the progress of your claims.
Estimating Your Reimbursement
To help you better understand your potential out-of-network reimbursement, we recommend using the Out-of-Network Reimbursement Calculator provided by Nirvana Health. This tool can give you an estimate of what you may expect to receive from your insurance company based on your specific plan and our fees.

Holding Hope MFT is not responsible for the accuracy of the estimates provided by the calculator. It is the client’s responsibility to verify their insurance coverage and benefits directly with their insurance provider.
Our Fees for Therapy
Therapy session fees at Holding Hope MFT range from $300 to $400 per session, depending on the therapist and the length of the session. We believe in the value and importance of investing in your mental health and well-being. Our fees reflect the advanced training, expertise, and personalized care provided by our skilled therapists. Payment is due at the time of service. Credit card is now the only form of payment accepted at the practice.
Sliding Scale Fees
We strive to make therapy accessible to those who may not have out-of-network insurance coverage or for those facing a period of financial hardship. We offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need and therapist availability.
To be considered for a sliding scale fee, please discuss this during your initial consultation call (or for current clients, contact your therapist directly). You will be asked to provide information about your income and explain your financial situation. In some cases, we may request documentation to verify your income. Please note, if you are approved for sliding scale fee reduction, this arrangement is intended to provide temporary assistance during times of financial hardship rather than a permanent fee reduction.
